Rosh Hashana—The Feast of Trumpets
By Pastor Bruce and Suzi Elman
The Feast of Trumpets, also known as Yom Teruah or Rosh Hashanah, marks the beginning of a vital spiritual season focused on repentance, awakening, and return to God.
The Meaning of the Trumpet Blast
- Spiritual Wake-Up Call: The blowing of the shofar (ram’s horn) acts as an alarm to rouse the soul from spiritual slumber.
- Call to Repentance: In biblical tradition, the trumpet sound urges people to examine their ways, confess sins, and turn back to God.
- Connection to Atonement: The Feast of Trumpets begins a solemn ten-day period known as the Days of Awe, which culminates in Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement).
- Preparation: The ten days give believers time for deep introspection and repentance before atonement and judgment are sealed.
