Container for Power

Encouraging Words with Pastor Bruce & Suzi Elman

Everyday we have to choose to speak forth good words—the responsibility to control our tongue. Words carry with them power to bless or to curse (James 3:9-12), to build up or to tear down! We can give words of encouragement or crush relationships with insults and criticism.

Sometimes in the heat of an argument we say things we never intended and hurt the very people we love the most! GOD knows the trouble we can get into because of our emotions; so He calls us to be people who control our speech! Callous words doesn’t just damage relationships but hinder our effectiveness as Messianic believers.

Proverbs 5:2
The tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly, but the mouth of fools pour forth foolishness.

What type of words fill your mouth each day? Our words are containers for power and they carry either positive or negative power! Let’s strive to think before we speak and ask FATHER GOD to help us tame our tongues!

Inner Rest

Encouraging Words with Pastor Bruce & Suzi Elman

The apostle Paul said that we are seated in heavenly places with Messiah YESHUA as a child of GOD! So what does that mean? What do we do when we sit? We rest, right! So to be seated in heavenly places with YESHUA is to enter an inner rest!

When we get nervous or upset about our problems and worry overtakes us, we need to tell ourselves “to sit down!” And we’re not just talking about our physical body but also our soul (mind, will and emotions)! It’s important to let our entire being rest and just wait on GOD.

We need to wait expectantly for GOD to do what we cannot do! Give Him the steering wheel!

Ephesians 2:4-6

But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loves us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with MESSIAH and raised us up together and made us sit together in the heavenly places in MESSIAH YESHUA.

The promises of GOD’S peace is not made to those who work, struggle or strive in their own strength but to those who enter GOD’S rest waiting on Him!

Messiah-Like

Encouraging Words with Pastor Bruce & Suzi Elman

Is repentance necessary in the life of the believer? Yes!

We see the critical truth in 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, GOD is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Remember, “to repent” means to change our minds! For unbelievers, this refers to a decision about where to find security! But for us (children of GOD), it involves a change of heart with regard to behavior or attitude.

Repentance is an ongoing decision to lead an obedient, MESSIAH-LIKE life. GOD absolutely hates sin! So if we agree with Him about sin, then we are changing our mind about disobedience in our lives.

Thoughts, attitudes and actions that once seemed perfectly natural will no longer fit who we are in MESSIAH YESHUA!

Proverbs 28:13

He who covers his sins will not prosper; but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.

Is there sin in your life that has become too uncomfortable to bear? Confess the matter to ABBA FATHER, and allow Him to change your mind about it and to turn away from it today, and you will receive His mercy!

God’s Tool

Encouraging Words with Pastor Bruce & Suzi Elman

If you want GOD’S best for your life and desire to be used by Him, at some point you’ll have to travel the road of adversity. This means His purpose for difficulty cannot be bad, yet many Messianic Jewish Believers  consider it a setback or defeat!

GOD has designed hardship to become a turning point from which we take our greatest leaps forward in spiritual growth. He allows adversity to remain in our lives only until it has enabled Him to accomplish His purpose in us. He will not let it linger one second longer than necessary. Difficulties show us where we stand in our faith! Of course we don’t actually know how much diversity we are able to endure, but GOD does! He does set a limit on our storms—establishing our threshold!

Psalm 103:13-14

As a father pities  his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him. For He knows our frame, He remembers that we are dust.

Next time adversity comes our way, remember this is GOD’S tool for building godly character in us. As we experience these storms of life, we are being conformed to the likeness of MESSIAH YESHUA! Count it all joy!

Wholehearted Love

Encouraging Words with Pastor Bruce & Suzi Elman

GOD wants us to serve Him enthusiastically and wholeheartedly! He doesn’t like half-hearted effort. Our verse today warns us against being lukewarm and teaches us that being neither hot nor cold is not acceptable to GOD. He would prefer that we be cold toward Him, rather then lukewarm! Why? It seems lukewarm is better than nothing, right? Well, this is because lukewarm people are easily deceived into thinking they are doing what they should be doing, when in fact they are not!

Example: these people might go to church as an obligation, but in reality they do not want to be there at all! They are offering sacrifice, not whole-hearted obedience!

Revelation 3:15-16

I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot, I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of My mouth.

Our LORD never does anything half-way and we should not either! We need to work unto the LORD, heartedly (with all our heart)! Never lag in zeal and in earnest effort; be aglow with your love of GOD, heart, soul and spirit!

Day of Reckoning

Encouraging Words with Pastor Bruce & Suzi Elman

Every person without exception will one day stand before GOD and give an account of their life. I encourage you today not to live like there is no tomorrow because tomorrow always comes.

Yeshua will come for us when we least expect it and then it will be too late to do all the things we intended to do but never got around to! One of the spiritual laws we see throughout the Bible is that we always reap what we sow. Everything that is now done behind closed doors will one day be brought out in the open! We should be sure that we realize nothing is really eternally hidden!

Revelation 22:12 And behold, I am coming quickly and My reward is with Me, to give to everyone according to his work.

Our salvation is a free gift from GOD; it is given by His amazing grace through MESSIAH and is to be received by faith. We do not get into Heaven because of our good works, but as our verse today teaches us, even so our works will be judged and rewarded according to what we have merited. That “Day of Reckoning” will one day be upon us; let’s be ready.
